Having had this irritating and somewhat random "Audio Converter Error"
problem ever since the start of using Rivendell, i've looked more
closely at Apache.
Have checked /tmp file limits etc and the problem does not reside there.
On a recent test with a machine that was giving this fault, I kept an
eye on /tmp whilst importing a large <600mb wav file. rdaudioconverter
ends up creating 2of 1.2Gb files and around half way through the
creation of the second file (when it was then around 600mb), Rivendell
threw up the converter error. rdaudioconverter was still working
however, as the file size continues to grow. A short time after the file
stopped growing, the rdaudioconverter folder in /tmp was deleted.
Clicking 'OK' to the Audio Converter Error and the audio is in the cart
as expected. No problems!
Checking the log at /apache2/error.log, reports "Script timed out before
returning headers: rdxport.cgi
So the problem seems to lie in the apache script. Which explains why my
modern 8 core Xeon server has no problem importing/exporting large audio
files!
How can we go about modifying this script so apache does not throw up
this error?

If I remember correctly, apache handles some of the audio ingestion
via the import.cgi file. Have a look in the apache error log to see
if it gives you any more info.

I googled and found the same error in a thread on this list in 2013,
I followed everything in that thread, permissions, selinux, httpd
stuff, still can't get anything to work, I can play cart 999999 in
rdairplay and edit it in rdlibrary so /var/snd permissions seem to be ok.
