Hi,
Just a quick suggestion as it seems to be a "I want local ads to play".
If you had an advert log loaded in say AUX 1 that just had the advert
segment you could use your GPI events to play AUX1 and then go back to
the Main Log.
Something like:
1. Fade Out/Stop Main Log
2. Play AUX (AUX would have a log chain to itself to effectively keep in
position for the next GPI event).
3. The last event in AUX would be a Play Main Log event.
Clocks and grids are used for play list generation. They are just a
template mechanism for automation. If you just want to hand craft your
own logs, you don't have to use them at all.
If you knew you wanted local ads at the top of the hour you could use
the clocks to have a timed event that kicked off the adverts.
If instead you are taking the advert feed from a satellite link via an
audio switcher its actually easier, all you would do is tell Riv to fade
out/stop on one GPI event and then start playing again on the other.
If it needed to control a switcher based on the events you can do that
too (e.g. make the satellite live, then switch back to Rivendell).

I'm looking at deploying Rivendell in an environment that is primarily
programmed via an XDS satellite receiver. The programs from the XDS have net
cues that the XDS can use to trigger relay closures on the back of the XDS. I
need to take these relay closures from the XDS and connect them to GPI's on the
Rivendell system and have the Rivendell system step through local
advertisements etc.
My knowledge of radio automation is very limited, and my knowledge of Rivendell is smaller than
that. I know in RDAdmin I can setup the GPI's to play macros on state transitions and I also see
in the macros in the Rivendell guide some potentially interesting commands (PL PN PS, and the
various switch options). What's not clear to me is how this would work with the concept of
"clocks" and "grids" within Rivendell.
I'd really appreciate any input on how to make this work.
Thanks,
