Hi,Gerry, A few things to consider.
You'll probably run into issues getting the ASI4501 working. Support for the ASI4xxx version of the card was dropped a while ago. Apparently it might be possible to compile the old HPI driver, but I've never tried this. Have a look at this message thread: http://caspian.paravelsystems.com/pipermail/rivendell-dev/2012-July/016016.html The ASI6xxx is supported so that one should be okay. Second thing to consider - while Debian / Ubuntu can work well by your own admission your client sounds less then knowledgeable when it comes to computers. This is potentially a good reason to stick with the appliance DVD. Consider if this person / station has difficulty with the system in the future and you are unavailable to assist. There is a need to find an answer quickly to keep the station on the air and a phone call is put in to Paravel for support. Paravel will support the broadcast appliance (for a fee of course) but they won't support a Ubuntu / Debian install.
