There is also the SYSFS interface, which works ‘out of the box' on RedSleeve
(have not worked with it on Raspian). See:

A Rivendell GPIO driver could actually be rather dangerous, seeing as the Pi’s
GPIO pins can be configured at the kernel level to do so many different things.
You wouldn’t want the application layer messing with that!
