In any case, you will need two things for a functional stream: 1. A streaming server. This piece of software will handle sending your audio to people who want to listen. You can either run it yourself or opt for a hosted solution: Icecast2 is very versatile, open source, and I believe most of the community here uses it and will be able to assist better, but it should be noted that Shoutcast also exists as a proprietary alternative. If you are a non-commercial station or are just exploring streaming, http://giss.tv is a free-of-charge streaming service where you can get an Icecast2 mount running in minutes via their web interface. 2. A streaming source which ensures that audio from your PC is fed to the streaming server. Unfortunately, edcast is discontinued. Look at darkice or even Liquidsoap if you are feeling adventurous. Both are primarily command-line tools and work with JACK.
