If you still have the backup, you could use non-Rivendell tools to drop the Rivendell database.
At that point, if a correct database is indeed the problem, you should be able to run rdadmin which will, iirc, create a blank Rivendell db. The run the restore again. If that seems too dangerous, you could bring up a new (virtual) machine quickly and run a restore on that.
