Rivendell was giving me a number of database errors on Ubuntu 16.04. I
tried configuring mysql 5.7 to act more like 5.6. This did not help I
continued to get the same errors. So, I downgraded Mysql to 5.6 and now
everything works as it should. Downgrading is not super simple but you
can do it using the method in the link below. Rivendell is now work
well for me on Ubuntu 16.04.
