I am no longer high on Mint at all. IMO, it is seriously buggy. My
installation of RD is experimental, as the production machines currently
run on other platforms. Mint started out as the Linux clone and
extension of Windows XP when XP support was discontinued. However, all
of the original developers left, and Mint now has lost focus to serious
problems.

Since my installation is not a production machine, but experimental, I
have done Mint updates, and to my chagrin, they have slowly and
seriously crippled the computer. In fact, I am right now preparing a
new machine to replace the Mint installation with CentOS 7. Among the
problems with Mint: alsa_in/alsa_out for Jackd quit working after a
Mint update about a year ago; the Evolution repository has not been
updated since 2011 even though Google has changed authentication methods
and while the Red Hat repository is--on the other hand--completely
current on Evolution; the Cinelerra-CV video editor repository is no
longer being updated; and various features of Linux and RD just stop
working after a few days uptime, like cron jobs and Now and Next
logging.

My advice is to abandon Mint. I am.
