Two weeks ago I was tasked with rebuilding a crashed Rivendell machine that would not POST. I replaced the motherboard with one online that came with a new Ryzen processor. Getting it up and running was straightforward, but two days later it locked up. Assuming it was a memory problem, I swapped the memory board out one at a time but found that the machine still crashed, sometimes in as little as a few hours. I replaced the motherboard with a new one, but kept the Ryzen processor. The machine rain five days without a problem, so, assuming it was good to go, I took it back to the station and reinstalled it. It locked up again six hours later.

A Google search reveals that a lot of people are having similar trouble with Ryzens, and AMD has issued a long-winded denial blaming the motherboard manufacturers. There have been several proposed solutions, but none appear to work.

I am about to buy yet another motherboard for this machine, and will switch to an Intel processor. I am letting y'all know jusy in case anyone else here may be tempted by the Ryzens. AMD is now officially in my dog house.
