At least in my setup, Rivendell wants jack running as root and I let it start my jack according to a config I do in rdadmin. This means my other stuff that wants to talk to jack needs to run as root too. This requires some fun setup tricks at boot time if I am doing any decent amount of jack trickery. Hopefully my memory is not playing tricks on my with this next bit. I keep wanting to be able to run multiple independent instances of jack as different users. I could let riv run jack as root and do all the riv stuff as root while also running jack as another user with a different sound card and doing non-riv stuff with that. Does anyone know if this is possible these days? If not, does anyone know if the underlying design of jack prevents this?
