Im still learning the ins and outs of Linux, and vnc is one of those things I was already somewhat familiar with on that other platform...

As it turns out, its not as bad as I thought.  Since both log and report paths are setup in rdadmin, it turns out the newly created linux user for the purpose of using vnc in their own virtual screen CAN import logs and export reports for reconcilliation.

So it gets the job done.  It just the occasional thing I have run into that I didn't think of.  For example after getting all the audio into the system, we generated a cart list from the library in this vnc account.  Couldn't write to the shared folder for export.  Was no big deal.  We go in front of the real display/keyboard and saved the report to the shared folder (to be printed out from a remote Windows machine).

Thanks!

If you don't need access to the running rdairplay, why not use ssh -X instead of vnc?

You can "ssh -X" into a Rivendell machine running rdairplay without affecting the operator's display at all. From the command line, you can start any Rivendell application except rdairplay, so it's perfect for library or log management.

The only thing you can't do is play audio. Any audio you play will play on the remote machine. But then, that is also the case with vnc.
