The WUMB Public Radio Network in Boston is now running Rivendell (2.19.3). However, they are still using their old Windows production machines, dropping the finished audio files into dropboxes to get them into Rivendell.

I am trying to build a workstation for them that includes Rivendell, Audacity, VLC, and Jack. After some trials and errors I have all of them playing nice together; the key seems to be to run Rivendell as user 'rd' instead of root.

However, they need to be able to play streaming audio from Web sites and record it in Rivendell. I found a Jack-enabled version of Firefox which will do this, but it is clunky; in particular, the Jack sources don't get created until I actually start playing a stream, which means there's no way to start Rivendell recording before the stream is actually playing.

I've a feeling my users are going to balk at this. Have any of y'allfound a better way to manage it?
