Greetings Folks:
As some have noticed, we recently had an outage of the list server handling the
Rivendell-dev and Rivendell-prog mailing list. The outage began around 0100 EDT
this past Sunday (6 June 2021) and was due to a hardware failure in the server
system. Full service was restored today around 1400 EDT. No loss of data in the
mails archives took place, although there might have been some dropped messages
during the outage period.
Ironically enough, the outage took place while we were in the midst of
preparations to migrate the lists to a virtual instance at AWS. In fact, our
original recovery plan was simply to complete the cloud migration. However,
that project is going much more slowly than anticipated (AWS is *very*
reluctant to hand out unlimited connection rights to SMTP port 25), so we ended
up repairing the original hardware and putting it back online today. Our
apologies for the prolonged outage!
