I can assure you that AR1 is not dead. However, Jim H. will need to
supply the remaining details regarding the release.

Hi,
Maybe I'm missing something but wasn't AR1 supposed to be "done" some
weeks ago? What happened to that release?
thanks
Holger

Can someone please comment? After reading Mark's board report I get
the impression that this project is just as rudderless and comatose
as it has been under Sun's "leadership", and it is not entirely
clear (to me at least) why all the formal efforts of IP clearance,
bug tracker migration etc. were done when nobody (well, almost) who
was assigned as committer actually works on it. I noticed that there
has recently been some activity in svn which is *great*, but I
cannot believe that's all. There is tons of stuff to do - actually
releasing AR1, triaging *and fixing* the existing bugs for AR2..n, a
better/more scalable JavaSpaces persistence mechanism (didn't John
McClain want to work on a JDBC/Derby backend?), more robust TX
manager, Spring integration (transparent Jini assimilation?), maybe
consolidating stuff from Seven, JSC, Rio.. the list is endless, not
to mention a few whacky ideas I have myself.
Yes, I know what you're thinking: the Right Thing is to volunteer
and "get cracking". The reality is that _nobody_ will (and
apparently does not) participate in a project that has no driver or
roadmap, but instead is just incompatibly fragmentated: GigaSpaces,
Blitz, Newton, Rio - all separate efforts without any kind of
coherent strategy left for River.
Does River/Jini have any actual stakeholders, drivers, interested
parties? Or, to put it another way: what if it does not?
