Looking at the outstanding issues for AR2 I think I'm part of a the problem. Besides the typically long Dutch vacation I just didn't have any spare time to spend on River due to various private matters and a different Open Source project based on Jini for which I'm looking into relocation. Business wise I'm on other type of consultancy jobs (unfortunately), so no possibility to justify it from that perspective. I think we have to have a look at my outstanding issues for AR2 and see whether we can defer some of them, I also have to submit some code that is finished in my workspace. I will make myself angry and get that submitted soon ;-) One issue I ran into is the lack of a proper test environment to verify my changes. The Jini codebase can't be used 'as is' for my purposes yet and as a result I can't test properly. I use a completely different vehicle for testing my modification to the 'old' Jini codebase for my own purposes, but that is an inefficient and indirect way of testing some of my changes to this codebase. Of course I could sort the testing out by myself but I had hoped those much more acquainted with testing the codebase would lend a hand here. I can understand the position of the Sun committers (as mentioned by Mark Hodap) but at the same time I also realize that without their and ex-Sun people's knowledge it will be hard to keep the codebase in a healthy state especially for some of the ideas Jini could benefit (such as making it more Internet friendly). And to be honest it is getting harder these days for me to spend those few spare hours left on a project for which those with the essential knowledge only have a minimal amount of time to spend. I still have to go through the responses on your question made by others, but I just wanted to let you know where I stand currently. I'm still committed to this project though ...
