That's perfectly valid, and all projects should have those discussions every now and then. I'm just worried that currently there doesn't seem to be too many people in River who'd actually start implementing any of the proposed changes.
I have all the changes that I know that I need for my itch implemented in my copy of the source tree. Others are in similar situations because the source was available long before their existed and open source project. Now we have a bunch of forks that many of us would actually like to merge. I have changes that I must have for my applications to work. So, I either need a way to plug that functionality into a the distribution, or I need to do more work at reintegrating my changes into the distribution, repeatedly.
Right now, I am only casually motivated to engage because there is not much conversation. So, I might just put out some patches in a Jira ticket and see what's next.
