It seems funny to me to decide to drop support for JDK 1.4 just  
because of a possible addition of a small quantity of code that could  
be rewritten easily.

There are definitely reasons to want to move to the Java 5 APIs, but  
maybe its not worth backing into that decision while doing something  
else.
