+1 The only argument I've heard for keeping 1.4 compatibility is that Blu-Ray devices are frozen to this version... and according to wikipedia, "BD-J" is based on Java ME, which is frozen to Java 1.3 class files. So that point may be moot.
And as Patricia points out, there are strong advantages to requiring 1.5+. jamesG
