I'm setting out rewriting the documentation as a sort of "background" job executed at a very low priority, just to fill some time gaps in my day

And I'm doing so (painfully) using DocBook again. I don't think I will work on a documentation engine based on rivet as in my original plans. That was originally a project for the summer but I don't have time enough.

A new directory doc/xml-2 will be created in trunk. This directory will keep the current manual while the rewriting is under way. The manual will be generated interleaving the rewritten parts (if complete) with the old parts. For a major rewriting I prefer to copy and paste paragraphs when needed, integrating them with the new text rather than modifying in place.

When the manual is generated from the rewritten parts only that xml-2 directory will be deleted

By the time this rewriting is completed (it's something that will take weeks more likely than days) I will proceed to vote to release rivet 3.0.
