Dear fellow Tcl'ers

after the release of rivet 3.0 I would like to express my firm determination to step down as chair of the Apache Tcl project. I didn't want to manifest this intention before this release because I gave myself the task of bringing rivet to a higher maturity level that could make it available on every environment where the Apache HTTP web server runs. Once this goal has been accomplished the time to speak has come.

In the last years my uneasiness has grown about the discrepancies between my role at ASF (Apache chair and member) and my actual contributions to this large complex and vibrant community. Though sometimes interesting, discussions and issues that occur in this community are now out of the focus of my main interests and I feel increasingly some sort of discomfort in being part of this community while hardly giving any real contribution to its life.

I will continue to give my contributions to rivet, I have in mind several things to do and I plan to continue to adopt it for my web related stuff. I just want to have a more centered role in it with respect to my real efforts and abilities.

If anybody feels he/she would meet better than I did the demands implied by the role of chair of the project, please step forward. If nobody does I think this is the clear sign the project should fork to some other OSS development community. This would probably also be the final act of the project Apache Tcl, as Rivet was the only remaining active project within it.

On the @private list a short discussion about this has taken place and 2 hypothesis have been made: either to move the development to Github, where already lots of Tcl related stuff resides or to ask the Tcl community to be hosted on core.tcl.tk, as one of the several fossil repositories. Your opinions are welcome.

thank you for the patience of reading this long message
