I believe the front page of http://rkhunter.sourceforge.net/ has the answers for you in the top section ("Problems running Rootkit Hunter?"). rkhunter 1.2.8 is old and unsupported, please upgrade to the latest release. If you're still having problems, please consult the steps on the website and FAQ first. If that sill doesn't solve your problems, please let the list know.
