Hello all,

I have recently upgraded my Fedora box from FC6 to F8. I did not simply copy
across my rkhunter.conf file, but gradually re-introduced the configurations
step-by-step to see what would need to be changed.

I have now eliminated all the errors and warnings except one:

"Warning: The syslog daemon is running, but no configuration file can be
found."

On checking, I found that my FC6 install did indeed have a /etc/syslog.conf
file and the F8 install does not. It *does* however have a /etc/rsyslog.conf
file which is more or less identical.

Changing the relevant section in rkhunter.conf from:
#
# This setting tells rkhunter the pathname to the syslog configuration
# file. This setting will be worked out by rkhunter, and so should not
# usually need to be set.
#
#SYSLOG_CONFIG_FILE=/etc/syslog.conf

to:

SYSLOG_CONFIG_FILE=/etc/rsyslog.conf

of course fixes this.

I thought I would let you know about this in case it would be possible to deal
with it automatically in a future version of RKH.

Any idea why Red Hat / Fedora have made this change?

Thanks again for a great product...

Mark
