Mainly for unSpawn....low priority remains 1) delete home user .gnupg folder 2) gpg --gen-key in creating that key I noticed I needed to put in a name.
I allege somehow in 2007 unSpawn used " " to enclose that name because before I created new keys etc...my old folder allowed command $ gpg --fingerprint /home/gordy/.gnupg/pubring.gpg ------------------------------ pub 1024R/A65F5E17 2007-07-22 Key fingerprint = E15B CD4D 6F14 E91D 1DD5 31A9 EA5F 4CD3 A65F 5E17 uid "rkhun...@hushmail.com" <rkhun...@hushmail.com> sub 2048R/26447505 2007-07-22 4) while mine shows up as pub 1024D/28B6ECAB 2009-01-05 Key fingerprint = 5646 B2AE 18CE 1D95 F9C9 4D1F A0EC 4CB2 28B6 ECAB uid Secret Squirrel <lqa...@gmail.com> sub 2048g/C6ABD45B 2009-01-05 Maybe on another box...unSpawn could replicate in a sandbox etc....and verify I am telling him the truth? I am not sure I have the right to tell him to fix it....as I know so little about gpg. Here is what I think happened in 2007 gpg --gen-key.....(some text deleted to reduce size) Please select what kind of key you want: Your selection? 1 Requested keysize is 2048 bits Key does not expire at all Is this correct? (y/N) y You need a user ID to identify your key; the software constructs the user ID from the Real Name, Comment and Email Address in this form: "Heinrich Heine (Der Dichter) <heinri...@duesseldorf.de>" Real name: "rkhun...@hushmail.com" Email address: rkhun...@hushmail.com Comment: You selected this USER-ID: ""rkhun...@hushmail.com" <rkhun...@hushmail.com>" Change (N)ame, (C)omment, (E)mail or (O)kay/(Q)uit? o You need a Passphrase to protect your secret key. blah blah blah Sorry for the verbosity....but unSpawn already twigged he did not need to enter a real name...but maybe the quotes does look a little unusual? end of my thread. thankyou all for helping. cheerio
