Your grace period for changes in the public "API" consisting of command-line 
and config file options are too short. It should be longer than "within the 
next few days", and you really can not expect that all end users of your 
program follows the mailing list of all programs they are using, or even if 
they do, that they have time to react "within the next few days".

I have seen software packages that keep stuff working but deprecated for a hole 
minor number, granted that was mostly features of programming languages, but it 
is still a really nice thing when you use it to build upon.
