I just downloaded rkhunter from sourceforge. I did:

        sudo ./installer.sh --install

Got as output:

        Starting installation:
Checking installation directory "/usr/local": it exists and is writable.
        Checking installation directories:

The instructions I was following (from another website) said I had to do:

        sudo rkhunter --propupd

next which gave the output:

Invalid BINDIR configuration option: Invalid directory found: .

When I tried to run rkhunter with
        sudo rkhunter —check
I got the same error.

I’m running this on a MacBook Pro laptop running MacOs 10.13.6

I downloaded and started to run this because I have reason to believe that my
system *might* have become infected with a rootkit. I have AVAST Security
installed but it says nothing is infected. And, I downloaded Malwarebytes and
ran a scan with that and it says the system is not infected but…

The question is: does rkhunter do things or check for things that Malwarebytes
and AVAST Security do not? If so, then what do I do to fix it so it will run
given the above error?

Thank you.
