Hm, wrote that, and then had another idea. I've tried something which seems to fix the RGtk2-problem, after all. Could you give this a try, either from SVN (http://p.sf.net/rkward/svn), or with _tomorrow's_ daily build (https://launchpad.net/~rkward-devel/+archive/rkward-dailys)?
