actually, most of the time this is not a problem. Try
    dpkg --compare-versions 0.5.5z-1 ">" 0.5.5-1 && echo "true"
. Only once you start adding several more more dashes in the version name, 
strange things start happening.

So that's why I hope with the "+" instead of "-" this will not be an issue in 
the future. For the short term, I hope to have tricked the version check by 
adding another dot, i.e.: 0.5.5.z+.... Now I'm just waiting for a successful 
build...
