i'm not convinced yet that's the issue. i believe it's simply a path problem.
the binaries seem to expect R to be installed to
  /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/
but the bundle places R in
  /opt/rkward/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/

i tried to hotfix this with a symlink, but apparently, libgfortran.2.dylib is
actually not available at all, which is probably a problem in R-framework:
 o http://trac.macports.org/ticket/37647

btw., the R port will cease to exist with the release of R 3.0 and is fully
replaced by R-framework.

i hope we can make this work without source package installation, because then
i can remove all build tools from the bundle, which will reduce its size
significantly!
