Jim / All, Lets not skip the most important step, IMO, and that is confirming the DL was successful. I DL RL the first time and the file size was correct but the md5 was not. Beats wasting a CDROM balnk only to find out that the DL is corrupted.
I know to some this is an obvious step but to others this is not. Certainly not common in the windows world. Jim you may have notice a file in the directory, where the RL .iso image resides, with the name "md5sums" w/o quotes. This file is a text file that provides a checksum value that was derived on the RL .iso files using an md5 verification tool. Basically an algorithm using an md5 checksum standard is performed and produces an alpha-numeric value. This is used to verify if files are truly the same bit for bit. Below is the contents of the md5sums file @: ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/redmondlinux/redmond/iso/ d19b1025e93d4f830b1de6bfa1bfec08 cd1_binary.iso 2d5ca83ccd6ac01633931bfce5fffde9 cd2_source.iso e4e82d8ae5ac0efeb01a5bf74b20107b cd3_devtools.iso I use a DOS program I found on the Internet to verify the md5 checksum of files I download (when the file provider provides the md5sum info, it's not always available.) Check out link below for more info and to get the md5 utility: http://www.iay.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/threel/tech/tools/md5.htm Once this md5sum is verified then you can proceed to burning the .iso file. I hope this helps. - Al At 04:47 PM 11/2/01 -0500, Sperry Russ wrote: >Jim, > >Here is a guide I found to burn CD's.
