I had no problems. Have you checked the md5sum to see if it was a good iso. Sometimes iso's screw up on download. What messages do you get? "fails to install a package .. and no packages get installed" -- these are two completely different things. Are you speaking of two different issues? Also, so we can help, what kind of machine do you have, memory and CD. If it crashes on auto-detect, it may be because of a strange video card, a known problem (with a work-around or fix) or, as we've seen, sometimes an unsusual modem or other piece of hardware it cannot accurately detect.
