La mine se pare ca nu prea ajuta, am verificat in log daca s-a activat
intr-adevar XAA:

Eu suspectez ca e din cauza lui freetype, pentru ca mrxvt, cand nu foloseste
xft, afiseaza instant fonturile bitmap.
