* ext2--Linux Native for reference.
* ext3--The extension of ext2 for journaling
* Reiserfs--A journaling filesystem that practically makes a database of
one's files, keyed by name.
* JFS--A contribution from IBM with a history in Unix and a lot of
promise.
* XFS--A contribution from SGI (Silicon Graphics) with a history in
Unix.
