Debian works well for me. I haven't tried anything else in quite a while.

I currently dual boot OS 9 and Debian on a G3 Powerbook and run only
Debian on a couple 9500 PowerMacs. Linux on PPC works very well. It
takes a little bit of work to setup the 9500 (and other similar
PowerMacs) to load Linux directly from the PROM instead of using Bootx
but, other than that, the install/setup is pretty simple.
