To all those interested in Beowulfs,

I have arranged for Greg Bruno, from The San Diego Supercomputer Center, to
come and talk about the NPACI Rocks clustering package. The Computer Science
department is sponsoring this colloquium. Here is the abstract:

"Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) clusters based on Linux and open-source
tools have become essential components of the computing fabric. But
clusters can be difficult to install and manage without a good toolset
and management methodology. This talk will describe the Rocks
Clustering Toolkit -- a set of installation tools, management strategy,
monitoring tools, and a simple mechanism for keeping software on
clusters up to date with the fast pace of change in the Linux community."

This talk will be held Monday, March 24th, in SEM 326. If your department
is considering Beowulf clusters, or you are simply curious as to what one
is and how they work, I encourage you to come. Currently, NPACI Rocks is
the most widely used cluster package on campus.

I don't know who else in the school is interested, so please forward this
email and attached announcement to any parties that may be interested.

Please email me ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or Fred Harris ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) if you
have any questions.
