(sorry for the crosspost) Tonight at the Reno Area Wireless Users Group meeting, we discussed some various events that we want to hold.
For the next meeting, we want to show off how to make a Cantenna. A Cantenna as a 802.11b 2.4Ghz antenna that is made out of a can, usually a coffee can, but Pringles cans will work also. Would anyone be interested in having a cantenna made as part of the demonstration, or watch and make one yourself? All that would be required is a coffee can and less than $10 in parts (might be $5, but I've never made one before). Since a lot of the parts can't be found locally, we'll need to order them online before the meeting on August 17th. There is a discount for buying in quantities of more than 10 at most shops. After the meeting, we'll go out into the parking lot and see how far our new $5 antennas will go using normal wireless access points and cards, versus the cantenna enabled access points and cards. If you are in, send an email to me or to the rawug list so I can get idea of how many parts will need to order.
