Hi Tim,
To help with a few of your questions:
I am the treasurer.
We have a bank account with a few hundred bucks left in it currently.
12 horses owes us about $3400 for the Linux classes taught by Jay and Sam.
This is well over a year old. It's really a shame that have not followed
through on their promised commitment. Especially since it's money we could
be using to bring in some high powered speakers.
There is a set of By-Laws that has not been reviewed by the general
membership.
We are NOT incorporated as of this time. Under IRC section 501(c) we do not
have to do so unless revenues exceed $ 5,000, ditto for formal non-profit
status.
Donations until such a time are still classified as deductible. (Make out
any checks to Reno Linux Users Group.)
I have the forms for the 501 c 3 application.
And I agree, Sam has done one hell of a great job. The person who replaces
him will have a lot to do. Even more if we are to grow.

Hello all.
In the upcoming months we'll be preparing for a regime change.
But before we all become blubbering idiots, let's try to remember
that Sam wouldn't want it that way. In fact, if he walked into a
room full of sobbing geeks, he'd either run screaming or just
feel really, really uncomfortable. Hopefully the former, for his
sanity's sake.
With that in mind, we are still left with several glaring facts:
- Sam's are some big shoes to fill
- RLUG/RUUG needs support outside of man-hours
Since most of us really don't know what it is that Sam does, I
feel safe in assuming that he must be doing a bang-up job, or
else we'd all be wading in brown yucky stuff instead of living on
in blissful ignorance as we tend to do.
And since Sam's doing such a good job, we'll have our work cut
out for us as we find someone to hold the fort. That is, as soon
as we find out when this meeting is taking place...
*nudge, nudge*
The second issue is as much a personal question as it is a
reiteration of need. Even societies built around alcoholics and
dead religious martyrs pass the proverbial hat, yet I'm at a loss
as to how to contribute to my favorite technical social event.
Who is acting Treasurer? Who do we make checks out to? Who
collects them, or must they be mailed? Is there a DBA for RLUG,
or are we waiting for the Articles of Incorporation?
We need not clutter the list with this info, but it should be
covered at the next meeting, if not at the ad hoc meeting this
week.
And with that I hope you all had a great weekend... cuz
tomorrow's Monday... MWAA HA HA HAAA!
Cheers,
Tim Hammerquist
