What drives me crazy about DSL service is that you have to have a POTS
line, which is another $20/mo, at least.

I think the cable companies really have the best model. Most of the town
already has cable, and the line charge appears to be built in to service
fee.

If the cable companies could pull their price down to $26.95 and not
charge their lame "$5/mo modem fee, $5/mo digital access fee", and at
the same time have at least a 99.99% uptime, everyone would be in
trouble.

To steer this topic back to Linux... bah. We are way off topic now.
