You should not have to open port 25 to send outgoing mail on your
system. This is typically only required for incoming smtp services or a
relay.
Are you getting any specific error messages when trying to send?
Timeout? Login Err--?
>From my personal Evolution experiences, I can recommend some areas to
check on the 'Sending Mail' tab:
1. Server requires authentication = True (for most)
2. Authentication Type (typically PLAIN for most ISPs)
('Check for Supported types' can be helpful for determining the Auth
Type if PLAIN does not work.)
If all else fails, you can use tcpdump to watch the traffic and see what
is really happening.
