Just a thought Regarding the USB drives... I have had some difficulty
with pre 2.4.22 kernels and hot plugging of USB 2.0 devices. Current
work-around is to plug the device when powered down, then boot the
system... works with SanDisk and PNY thumb drives.

I have found Apt to be the way to go for proper package update
management... and effective dependency updates... apt-rpm for rpm based
users... takes some adapting (results may vary).

BTW, Over the past 4 days, I have received several worm (attempts) from
someone on this list... someone's poor win32 box was infected with the
somefool.worm. Reminded me to update my defanging rules. :-)

If you want to secure your linux box, you need to start with a good
firewall... iptables is free (and you already have it), but takes some
tweaking, and has a bit of a curve... if you are interested, I could
show you some sample firewall scripts... and how to use them.

Colin
