I've had good experriences with Nagios. Right now I have it monitoring 123 services on 52 hosts including Linux Servers, Windows Servers, Cisco Routers, and HP Switches. It works much better than what we were using before (nothing) :) My biggest gripe with it was configuration. I'm used to it now, but it took me a while to get comfortable with. I've seen some packages recently that can aid in the configuration, but haven't tried any of them yet.
