I'm successfully running vmware 4.5.2 on SuSE 9.1
The solution is to do the following:
cd /usr/src/linux make cloneconfig make prepare
then run vmware-config.pl
I really have no idea how this makes it work, but it does :-)

Been trying to install (evaluation copy) of VMWare on Suse 9.1 Pro and it's driving me nuts.
At this point I'm so tired and bleary eyed - I'm sure I am overlooking something very basic and simple but I've looked at it too long. But it's something in the make I think. And I think I missed something in the modules I need to load to cover all the dependencies....
