There are several quick ways to start: - OpenOffice.org currently only runs on Mac OS X under X11, so now you have that option. [*] - Get Fink <http://fink.sf.net/> running, then type the following in Terminal.app: % fink install xterm % fink install gkrellm2 % fink install ethereal-ssl That should get you started with little to no fuss. For those with a bit more time on their hands, there's also a port of Gentoo's Portage to OSX (not the Linux distribution) available here: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/macos-guide.xml Be warned, though. It was still the a very unstable alpha stage when I last touched it a couple months ago. I don't expect it to be an effective replacement for, nor complement to, fink in the near future. Cheers! Tim Hammerquist [*] While the official OpenOffice.org OSX port is X11 only, there is also NeoOffice <http://www.neooffice.org/>, a port of OOo to Java, which runs with the native Aqua interface. Keep in mind, though, that this means a large productivity suite (large & slow) with a Java interface (large & slow) talking to Aqua (graceful, but also slow). But it's really the huge mass of OpenOffice code that makes up the vast majority of the molasses here. _______________________________________________ RLUG mailing list RLUG@rlug.org http://lists.rlug.org/mailman/listinfo/rlug
