Heh... as the bubble burst, google apparently got flooded with the resumes of every single silicon valley engineer or pseudo engineer laid off by any company in the region. Lots of people. I've heard their interview practices are pretty exhaustive... ie, annoying.. I've known a lot of good people who have been hired there, and a few good people who weren't... so maybe they're on the right track. Unlike other companies, i've heard they have some sort of internal group which vettes prospective hirees. I'm guessing this kind of downplays the role of the hiring manager somewhat. I also heard they hire sysadmin types into a 'pool' of sysadmin resources.. and then they kinda allocate ya to a project or group or something. In regards to resume, it's much a matter of personal preference. I generally put a list of crap I generally "do" in one line, and a one line description of what I want to generally "do", and then list work experience from there. I'm guessing interviewing at google is like interviewing at Microsoft, except without the evil, forboding presence.. :-) I thought many times about trying to get into Google, but even assuming I was hired, I would've been doing something vaguely fun and interesting, but not going back to grad school for what I actually *want* to do.. :-) In the end, you should remember, particularly in the case of Google, if you don't get called, it doesn't mean anything at all. Most likely they were just too innundated with resumes, possibly from people with personal connections inside the company... as with other companies, it's no reflection on you or your skills... only with Google it's even less such a reflection. If it's not obvious... I've had this discussion many many times.. :-) -Brian > > G'night! > > peace, > core > > > _______________________________________________ > RLUG mailing list > [email protected] > http://lists.rlug.org/mailman/listinfo/rlug _______________________________________________ RLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.rlug.org/mailman/listinfo/rlug
