I have a web application which needs to do an http upload (post), but it needs to upload a scanned image. Strange thing is the user can't scan into some temporary directory and then upload the image as an ordinary file. (Don't ask). The requirement is to have the web browser upload pull an image from the scanner directly.

you say "Don't ask" but I'm very curious. why not? is it political?
is the disk read-only? (you can use a loopback device...) heh.

Fairly political... it's been an issue just to get clients to deal with us considering we run linux/apache/postgres, even though we deliver in an ASP model (we're just a friggin website.. so why do they care? :)). Trying to get them to convert to Linux would be unreasonable at this stage, though getting them to convert to Firefox on Windows is something they might consider if it fixed their scanning-upload issues... (which, technically, aren't my problem currently... I'm just going a step beyond to help out since they're the best kind of customers and all..)
