Got the fix.  Something dirt simple as expected:

needed to create a symbolic link so the perl routine could find everything.
Like so

 ln -s /usr/bin/gcc-3.3 /usr/bin/gcc

ARGHHHHH!  2.5 days scewing with that.

Oh... maybe I should have read closer.  Do you have gcc
installed? LOL! ;-)  Make sure you have the same gcc the kernel
was build with.
