I highly recommend Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs by Harold Abelson and Gerald Sussman... (and not just because Gerald Sussman invented Scheme with Guy Steele)

I finished downloading all 30+ gigs of the SICP lectures by Abelson, I'm probubly going to compress them to .mov and put them on a DVD with the textbook in html format if anyone would like a copy I can bring it to the rlug party in december
