To just test, if you are logged into a shell of some sort and have
X-windows running, you can do: (in sh/bash)
DISPLAY=:0 xterm &
to launch it directly to your default display.
I'm not certain why your DISPLAY environment variable is not getting set
though.
yeah, I forgot to mention I did try to set all sort of values to display,
but I get "xterm Xt error: Can't open display: 0.0" etc
collin: I'm not trying to ssh anything, I'm just trying to get xterm running
on my dern laptop.
I needed an environ for work asap (today) to work on some documentation so I
ended up just remapping ctrl and caps on one of the win2000 boxes already
there and putting a binary win emacs on my pen drive, so Emacs + Microsoft
Office + Flash will have to do until I have time to get a linux box up with
Emacs + OpenOffice + not windows...
...talk about kludge...
