1. I think it is a worthwhile extension.
2. In java, it is simply setting a flag.

1. Need access to the content,
the param value, and a flag (how? another name? a totally new
data type?
exslt collated user extensions, the best of which were merged
back into 2.0.
Is this an opportunity to try this for Relax NG?
