Hi Jesse, First answer: "in general" Robinhood is continuously tested with all lustre versions from 1.8 to 2.6, but cross compatibility configurations are not tested. "In general", it is highly recommended to run the same version of Lustre on the robinhood host and the servers rather than having the same version as other standard clients because: - to be able to fully process information from lustre servers (eg. changelogs, ...) , robinhood needs to be aware of server structures. This knownledge relies on lustre headers and liblustreapi installed on the robinhood host, and liblustreapi reflects the capabilities of the lustre client version. That's why it is not recommended to have lustre client version on the robinhood host < lustre server version. - for some optimizations or specific actions (e.g. lustre-hsm actions), robinhood uses liblustreapi calls that can fail if the server don't implement them. That's why it is also not recommended to have lustre client version on the robinhood host > lustre server version.
Second answer: for your particular case. If I correctly understood, you want to run robinhood on a lustre client whose version is higher than server version. As long as your robinhood (tmpfs mode?) doesn't use lustre 2.5 or 2.6 specific features like Lustre/HSM, it should be OK. In particular, if you just use robinhood for scanning, reading changelogs, reporting, or to run simple POSIX actions like "rm" (unlink), and given that a robinhood lustre 2.6 client is aware of all changelog records from 2.4 servers, no problem is expected.
