It processes it as a symlink: insert inode information to ENTRIES table
and store the contents of the link to ANNEX_INFO table.

No. Why do you think that?
This user does have a large number of soft links where the other end
cannot been seen by the scanning machine.

This doest look related to symlinks.
Very strange. MySQL doc indicates error 1153 is about too big packet
size. This error has never been reported. And the request doesn't look
that large.
What is the stripe count of this file? (lfs getstripe ...)
